The short version
This site does not sell your data, does not run ads, and does not track you across the web. The only data collected is what you voluntarily submit (your email address if you subscribe to the newsletter or use the contact form), plus anonymous usage analytics provided by Vercel.
Who is responsible for your data?
This website is operated by Melvyn Cross, an individual. If you have any questions about how your data is handled, you can contact me directly:
What data is collected and why?
Email Newsletter subscription
If you enter your email address in the subscribe form in the footer, it is stored and used solely to send you The Dispatch (articles and updates from this site). You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any newsletter email with "unsubscribe". Your email is processed via Resend, a transactional email provider.
Email Contact form
If you use the contact form, your name, email address, and message are transmitted by email directly to me via Resend. This information is not stored in a database; it exists only in my email inbox.
Analytics Usage analytics
This site uses Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. These tools collect anonymous, aggregated data about page visits and performance (pages viewed, country, browser type, Core Web Vitals). No personal identifiers are collected. No cookies are set. No cross-site tracking occurs.
Storage Browser storage (localStorage)
This site stores two small preferences in your browser's localStorage — not cookies:
mc_theme— your chosen colour theme (light or dark).mc_lang— your chosen language (English or French).
These values never leave your device and are not accessible by any third party.
Third-party services
This site uses the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy:
- Vercel — hosting and analytics
- Resend — transactional email (contact + subscribe)
- Sanity — headless CMS for blog and book content
- Google Fonts — font delivery (your IP may be logged by Google)
No advertising networks, no social media tracking pixels, and no third-party cookies are used on this site.
Your rights
Under the GDPR (applicable to EU/EEA residents) and similar laws, you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal data I hold about you (your email address, if subscribed).
- Request deletion of your personal data at any time.
- Object to or restrict processing of your data.
- Withdraw consent (e.g. unsubscribe from the newsletter) at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email melvyn.cross05@gmail.com. I will respond within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will be updated. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
